The poor in America

We hear a lot about the poor here in America, here are some facts:



Forty percent of the poor live in apartments, less than 10% in mobile homes or trailers and about 50% live in standard one-family homes. 42% own their own home.

The vast majority of those homes are in good repair, with more living space per person than the average non-poor person in Britain, France or Sweden.

Ninety-six percent of poor parents say their children were never hungry during the year due to an inability to afford food.

Eighty percent of poor households have air conditioning and 92% have a microwave.

One-third of poor households have a wide-screen plasma or LCD TV, 70% have a VCR and two-thirds have satellite/cable TV, the same proportion as own at least one DVD player.

Half of the povery households have a personal computer and one-in-seven have two or more.

And half of those with children have a video game system like Xbox.

Almost 75% have a car or truck and nearly a third have two.



When I was young we were 'poor' We had TV, we always had a car, I don't remember ever being hungry. Yes my Mom worked her butt off to support all three of us kids, and sometimes we did without things like cable TV, but we were happy. I think we now live in a fantasy world of entitlements, where kids get out of high school and expect to make $20 an hour right off the bat. Where everyone expects to have an iPhone, an Xbox and a Lexus, but they don't want to work hard for those items. They expect the 'gumment' to give them everything, which is a sad comment on out society. If you want to see real poverty go to Mexico, or Africa. In America people don't starve...



I don't have any issues at all with Legal immigrants, in fact, most immigrants work a lot harder then the average American, they know what doing without really means. However, illegal immigration is another issue...

97.2% of all costs incurred from those births were paid by the American taxpayers.

66% plus of all births in California are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal whose births were paid for by taxpayers.
